Full manual

Development preview · macOS 14+ · Intel & Apple Silicon. Public App Store download and support purchases are not available yet.

Getting started

  1. Add connection

The server is the address of the destination computer. Enter its name or IP without ftp:// or a path, for example ftp.example.com.

  2. Protocol and port

Use the protocol, port and account supplied by your provider. SFTP uses SSH (usually port 22) and requires a verified server fingerprint. FTPS uses TLS (usually 21 or 990). Password authentication is supported; SSH private-key login is not available yet. Never disable security to work around a connection error.

  3. Username

Copy the full FTP username, including any @domain suffix. It is not necessarily your email address.

  4. FTP password

Enter the password for this FTP user in PexTransfer’s Password field. If you already know it, do not reset it. If you do not, open the password control shown below and set a new one in the provider’s dashboard.

  5. Server folder

For your first connection, leave Server folder as /. After connecting, open the destination on the right by double-clicking its folders. Copy the path displayed above the server list back into the profile to start there next time.

  6. Test connection

Give the connection a name you will recognise. Choose the local Mac folder with your files, then Test connection and Save connection. Testing only reads the server; it does not upload. Keep automation off unless you want to allow it.

Keychain is local to this Mac. iCloud is not required. Turn off to keep the password only until you quit PexTransfer.

Obtain the SSH fingerprint from your hosting provider. Test connection shows the presented key without trusting it.

Where is your server?

Open the link below in your browser and sign in to your hosting account. This is where you manage and pay for your hosting, not your WordPress admin.

Follow the numbered steps below. Select the site you want to upload to. Provider menu labels are shown in their original wording; translated dashboards may use equivalent names.

On the page you just opened, copy the values next to these labels into PexTransfer. Do not type the labels themselves or an example address. Copy the server without ftp:// or a folder path.

A reset also affects other apps using this FTP account. Update their saved password too. PexTransfer stores your password in macOS Keychain.

Illustrated workflow · Drag files → review → upload

Select your local folder, then connect. Double-click folders to navigate. Upload selected files or drag files into the server panel and review the destination. To download one file, use its context menu and choose a local destination. Use New folder or Rename for remote organization. A successful connection test reads the server; it does not prove write access. Keep backups before replacing files.

Files are replaced after upload and size verification. No backup is created.

Last 200 transfers on this Mac. Passwords are never included.

Sync

Mac → ServerServer → Mac

Compares size and modification time. No files are deleted. Select the changes to apply.

Sync compares size and modification time, not file hashes. Review its direction and selection; it does not delete files. Hidden files and symbolic links are skipped during recursive upload; create empty folders separately. The queue is limited to 10,000 files. Resume attempts apply within the current running session, not across app restarts. SFTP supports passwords, not SSH private keys. This app is a transfer tool, not a backup service.

Favorite folders

Save current folders… → Save. Saves the current local and server folders for this connection.

Scheduling & speed

Schedule uploads from the upload preview; schedule downloads from a server file’s context menu.

Scheduling requires a saved connection and password.

Schedules run once, only while the Mac is awake and PexTransfer is open. Overdue jobs run when available. The selected file list and connection settings are captured when scheduling; file contents are read when the job runs. Recreate a job after changing its connection settings. An interrupted job needs checking before rescheduling. In Edit connection, 1024 KiB/s is approximately 1 MiB/s; reconnect after saving a speed limit.

Scheduled transfers → Pause / Resume / Remove

Enable macOS notifications

Allow notifications for PexTransfer in macOS System Settings.

Automation

Automation is optional. It lets commands on this Mac use the saved profile and upload from the selected local folder. Leave it off if you do not need it.

Troubleshooting

If a connection fails, check the exact server, port, FTP account and network. Do not disable encryption for a certificate error; verify the address with your provider. Reset passwords with your provider.

Connection failed

If a connection fails, check the exact server, port, FTP account and network. Do not disable encryption for a certificate error; verify the address with your provider. Reset passwords with your provider.

Login rejected. Check your FTP username and password.

Enter the password for this FTP user in PexTransfer’s Password field. If you already know it, do not reset it. If you do not, open the password control shown below and set a new one in the provider’s dashboard.

Local working folder

The server folder is the destination. Use the administrator’s path; if unknown, start with /. The local folder is on your Mac and contains files to upload.

Replace existing file

Files are replaced after upload and size verification. No backup is created.

Interrupted

Interrupted. Check the destination before scheduling again.

Support PexTransfer

Support purchases are not available in this build yet. All app features remain available.

developer@pexto.cz

Support PexTransfer

Once support purchases are available, a reminder may appear after 14 days when the app is idle. Active subscribers do not see it. Opening the support panel restarts the interval. Closing the reminder does not restrict any feature.
